The God Cycle

Many years ago I had an idea for how it all fits together. Modern cosmology intersecting with religion, Gods, demons, and unicorns co-existing among the stars. It was the kind of thing I just couldn't seem to shake, so one faithful afternoon I just sat down and began to write... and I haven't stopped since.

The gods are locked in a bloody embrace of incompatible ideologies searing a swath of destruction through human civilization as though fueled by pain and worship in equal measure. For ages, this zero-sum game has been intensified by dogmas that are not merely conflicting, but mutually exclusive.
What on earth are the gods doing?
Or perhaps more accurately…
What are the gods doing on earth?

CATCHING SPIDERS

Something ancient and deadly has come to Paris—and wouldn’t you know, it happens to love jazz.
Simón, a former piano prodigy turned addict, escaped an affectionless childhood to eke out a living by slinging drinks in the best jazz club in Paris, his existence made tolerable by the wonderful music that surrounds him.
His drug-dazed mind is thankful for the programmed alarms in his smartwatch. Without those he would not just be consistently late for work—he would probably forget to show up at all. He is less pleased the day his watch starts commenting on other aspects of his life. He especially dislikes when it tells him he is going to die.

This short story is set between book two and three of The God Cycle trilogy, but it can be read before or after (no spoilers, just some really cool clues and context).

A mind fractured by tragedy.
An asylum filled with dark secrets.
An invisible gnome with a pet chicken.
Daryl's therapy uncovers a blood-stained past of pain and death, alongside something dormant within him of frightening power. When Dr. Walker teaches him how to face his demons, the psychosis-induced hallucinations and dreams conspire to warn him of something much worse stalking him. Something ancient and evil.
To survive, Daryl must confront the repressed memories that drove him insane.
For madness—is a blunt instrument.
